DENDROLOGY aims to familiarize students with the vernacular and scientific names of commercial species in Malaysia. It also emphasizes naming the trees based on botanical or scientific techniques. This course provides knowledge of Malaysian timber's availability and commercial value from dipterocarp and non-dipterocarp families. Students will have field trips to lowland dipterocarp forests, hill dipterocarp forests, and mangrove forests as all these regions are important in terms of economic value. Through experiences from coursework in classes and field trips, students will possess strong basic skills in recognizing commercial trees in Malaysia.
